Periodontology is a branch of dental medicine that deals with prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of supporting structures of the teeth. Manifestations of periodontal disease significantly vary but one of the most common problems include bleeding gums, redness, swollen and painful gums, and bad breath.

The therapy and procedures depend on the degree of periodontal disease and they may include removing plaque from the teeth, applying more progressive treatments in some advanced cases, or by performing oral surgery procedures.
